The AMD Alternative to the RTX 5070
The RX 9070 XT is the top of AMD’s RDNA 4 stack — 64 compute units, 16GB of GDDR6, and a 304W board power. It is the faster card in raster against the RTX 5070 and carries 16GB against the NVIDIA card’s 12GB, which is the more future-proof pairing for 4K textures. FSR 4’s move to a machine-learning model closed most of the image-quality gap that made earlier FSR versions hard to recommend.
Two caveats decide this one. Ray tracing on RDNA 4 improved sharply but still trails Blackwell, so in path-traced showcase titles the 5070 pulls ahead despite being the slower raster card. And the power draw is real: 304W against 250W, with AMD specifying a 750W minimum supply. Our High-End build ships a 750W RM750e, so the card fits — exactly, with no headroom for a further GPU upgrade later.
Pick the 9070 XT for raster performance, VRAM, and 4K longevity. Pick the RTX 5070 for ray tracing, DLSS, and a quieter power budget. It appears as the AMD alternative in our High-End build.
